Fiamma Colonna Montagu is an artist, based in the UK and specialising in large scale ceramic sculpture and site-specific commissions.
She has exhibited nationally and internationally for over 25 years at galleries including: The Bowman Gallery, New Art Centre, The Gallery Florida, Willer and Sladers Yard and her works can be found in collections around the world.
Since 2000 she has worked with a variety of clay types, from translucent porcelain to the gritty textures of black and brown stoneware, shaping, moulding and juxtaposing shapes to create elemental and symbolic sculptures.
Sculptures range in scale from monumental site-specific works such as the Portals series - a collection of circular gateways which appear to float in the landscape - to ‘sacred’ Meditation totem sculptures, maquettes and smaller scale works.
Touch feel and gesture are recorded in each piece through indentations, marks and movement, evoking different emotional states in the moment of making. In this way the aim is for each work to have presence and soulfulness. These are works which reach out to explain what is innately human about trying to grasp, touch and feel our place in the world.
